TANZANIA: CLOSE CONNECTIONS

2000

This exhibition was the result of a project carried out by a young British journalist who travelled to Africa to volunteer with an international health organisation.   Prior to her departure, she visited LIGCA to discuss the possibility of working with local children to develop an art exhibition and to seek some ideas on how this might be done with locally available resources.

During her stay in a tiny village in Tanzania she encouraged local school children to use art to describe their village, school, lives and dreams. The result is this series of collages that include imaginative media such as tea, coffee, sand, torn tissue paper and magazine pages, feathers, grasses, washing powder and other found objects.
