VIVA MEXICO

2001

Viva Mexico is an assemblage of paintings, drawings and collages that reflects the life and culture of Mexico. The artwork depicts local scenes, flora and fauna as well as celebrations such as the Day of the Dead and figures from Mexican mythology, which are steeped in the Aztec heritage.

This collection brings together the art of children involved with La Senda Ranch, a small arts centre operated by expatriate artists, as well as students of the Jose Vasconcelos bilingual school in San Miguel which educates both local and international expatriate children. It is noteworthy that La Senda Ranch seeks to assist local rural children develop their creative skills in the belief that by doing so, these children might grow up to produce high quality art and handicrafts to sell.
